Josef Marek trained at the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague, Czech Republic. He has taught for several years in Toyama Institute of Glass Art, Japan.

Recently he has worked as a freelance sculptor and glassmaker in his studio in Liberec, Czech Republic. His works are in public and private collections and he has shown his sculptures throughout the United States, Japan and Europe.

His inspirations are natural aesthetics, forces and energies. An important aspect of his sculptures are their playfulness with natural light, which he utilizes to create a feeling of illusive space. His sculptures are made by the interaction of natural light and glass sometimes combined with other sculptural materials.
